The cop who shot a dog in front of its 6 year old owner was fired after outrage from the community and a “Justice for Apollo” campaign.

The cop who shot an unarmed black teen is on paid leave and remains protected by his department. So far, days of outrage and protest have still not brought any justice to Mike Brown.

In America, in 2014, the life of a black man is valued less than that of a dog.

Literally.

"The thing about liking someone and holding it in is that days dont always feel the same. Hope fluctuates constantly. Today, i woke up and realised that the boy i love all these years- our hearts will never beat the same. All this while i thought that maybe, i had a chance. but the truth is, that’s just the thing about liking someone.
liking someone and
holding it

you just keep holding it in."

does anyone else ever just feel really sad because literally nobody around you cares about language learning and you’re the only one and it’s just very lonely because nobody understands the joys and struggles, and tumblr is one of the few places you can find like-minded people who love language learning too

or is this just me?

Recently, a Czech linguist named Jakob Murian came up with an estimate of the number of languages your average European speaks. The study is complicated, however, by the question of how much you need to know to really understand a given language. At the LRB’s blog, Glen Newey asks: are you fluent when you can order a beer, or when you can translate Virgil? Pair with: Abigail Rasminsky on learning to speak German.
Anonymous: (U can ignore if u want) the one thing I don't get is how I have been learning English since kindergarten. And that the white ppl in my school have been learning Spanish since kindergarten and that literally can't even speak or read in Spanish. (I'm Mexican) and I speak English w out an accent and I'm in an ap English class like the fuck. And the white ppl get praised for just going to class.

PETITION TO MAKE LEARNING ANOTHER LANGUAGE COMPULSORY IN ENGLISH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES FROM A YOUNG AGE BECAUSE ENGLISH SPEAKERS ARE LAZY ASSWIPES WHO EXPECT EVERYONE TO SPEAK ENGLISH AND NEVER BOTHER EVEN LEARNING ANY OTHER LANGUAGE.

Actually, most of us would love speak another language but our education system sucks so we literally learn 4 words. It’s not because we are all lazy.

I want to say most elementary schools in America have a Spanish class kids go to once a week. You just learn colours and numbers and very basic sentences. In high school (at least at my high school) students of the graduating classes of 2016 and onwards, are required to take two years of the same language to graduate. I myself will graduate in 2015 so I have no language requirements. I still took French 4 and Spanish 2 this year. The students who were in a language of my graduating class and before, actually wanted to be in the class (for the most part) so there was a lot more motivation. Now all the students don’t want to be in a language and there’s a lot of trouble makers being forced to take a class and they distract and slow down the class. They really don’t understand that another language is something good that will make you more employable in the future among other things. We have French, German, Mandarin and Spanish at my school. With more classes in Mandarin and Spanish than French and German. That’s ok because there’s more Mandarin and Spanish speakers in the world. It really depends on the teacher too on how you learn. For my exams in French and Spanish, I’ve had to write a paper using everything I know. It’s really based on the set curriculum by the government. You’d think that a country with no official language would strive to make learning languages a big deal but they don’t. Not necessarily learning Farsi or Zulu, but at least Mandarin and Spanish since they’re the most spoken.
